ASTM A106 GR. B Seamless steel pipe has good welding performance. Due to the low C content, there is generally no serious hardening structure due to welding, and the welded joint has good plasticity and toughness. The whole welding process can obtain satisfactory welding joint without special technological measures.
ASTM A106 GR. B and 20# are similar in chemical composition and mechanical properties and are often substituted for each other, but differences do exist, especially with regard to extended use requirements. For example, taking 20# as an example, GB50316 stipulates that the minimum operating temperature of GB8163 20# steel tube is -19℃, while ASMR B31.3 stipulates that the minimum applicable temperature of A106 GR. B steel tube is -29℃, and there is the condition of no impact test.Although there are differences in the design specifications, the deep reason is the difference in the control level of Mn content. The manufacturer may not be aware of these extensions, but the purchaser should be aware of these differences and inform the manufacturer of the requirements at the time of purchase, otherwise problems may arise under more stringent requirements.
